This has to be one of my favorite times of the year even though it coincides with my spring break. The Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Festival is always a good time to get a bit of culture in. 😀
About a month ago, they kicked off with a concert “Gustavo Dudamel & the Simón BolÃvar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela“, which was quite lovely, though there may have been a few too many instruments. 🙂
Anyway, the kick-off for me was seeing Herbie Hancock. What was quite shocking was that many people I spoke to had never heard of him or were not familiar with his name. WHAT?! I suppose he is 73-years-old and younger folk who probably never listen to jazz would not know him. Still, he’s a music legend…even I know that and I don’t even like to listen to jazz. 😉
It was a really nice concert. We weren’t “allowed” to take photos or videos, but in true Tara-fashion, I got a few clips. One highlight was an Emirati singer – Hamdan Al Abri – who shocked the pants off of us with his voice! I’m not sure my video does him justice, but wow!
It was a great show and more to come this week. 😀
