There are various regular summer activities that happen around the cities, towns and villages of Italy. Umbria is no different. The main events that can be found around are music festivals. Our town of Orvieto always has the Orvieto Sound Festival.

While I don’t listen to a lot of Italian music, though it would probably be good for my language skills, I do enjoy music of all kind. Last year was a lot of fun as our friends organize the weekend with restaurants that border the piazza where the concerts are held, so we can get food, drink and tickets for a very good price. Plus, it is always fun to have a different kind of night out.

This year, I wasn’t sure how I would feel with the ankle, but luckily all of that was no issue at all. I was able to see Alfa on Friday night and we saw Max Gazze last night.

Alfa was excellent. He had fans from all ages and put on a great show (left pic). Unfortunately, it wasn’t until the encore toward the end of the concert that Max Gazze engaged with the crowd and got us into the music. For me, it sounded like a few of the instruments were out of tune with the others and the music style was not quite my favorite.

However, the company and time out was excellent. Given how hot it has been here during the days, it was nice to go out to enjoy time outside when the temperatures were better.

So, it was a good weekend all in all!

A while back one of my relatives on Facebook posted a video of this father-daughter duo singing “The Prayer”, which is one of my favorite songs.

For years, we have watched Claire and Dave Crosby sing. The cuteness factor along with the sweet naivety of a daughter looking up to her father were the main draw. We still enjoy watching them out of nostalgia, but the talent level is in a growing phase….

Therefore, the real beauty of The Shaws is that the talent between the two of them is pure. Also, the start of their fame has come from the basic desire of just wanting to sing. Even as you listen to their Q&A session (above), there is such humility and joy in what they are doing.

It reminds me of the joy I used to have singing. While I let myself be held back by my own shyness, fear, and introvertedness as a youth, I always felt free and peaceful when singing. Of course, I could still join a choir or sing more formally, but that’s not of interest at the moment.

Still, I think the joy of turning on some beautiful tunes, belting them out with all of my might creates a purity in the soul. So, maybe it’s time to blast the speakers and let it out! πŸ˜€

Day 21: Β What song are you most grateful for?

This is one of my favorite songs and whenever I hear it I end up putting it on repeat. The tune is beautiful to me and the lyrics are poetically sweet.

Oftentimes I find that songs in other languages touch my soul more than those in English. I am not sure why.

I was just journaling recently how I have let music go a bit lately as I get a bit disappointed by pop music or new artists who are merely copying old songs and mashing them with new beats or tunes but not really creating new music. In fact, I have just about stopped listening to music at all in the car as I found it can agitate me or affect the amount of road rage I have. So I decided that I didn’t need any external influences while I am trying to stay calm on the roads. However, this carried over to the rest of my day unnecessarily.

I love music – even if it’s not always good. It makes me happy to sing a song or dance around. So sometimes while I am journaling or writing emails I have started to turn on the tunes. Therefore, it is important that I keep music in my life where it can bring joy and smiles.

This one always touches my heart. Hope you enjoy it too. Very grateful to Nelly Furtado for giving me a song.
